Green Club: Macsween Haggis – Loanhead

22 September, 2011

Macsween, guardians of Scotland’s national dish, are widely renowned in the industry for both their traditional haggis and their environmental credentials.  Over the years Macsween have reduced their energy and water use, diverted significant proportions of their waste from landfill and implemented an ethical sourcing policy.

During this visit Macsween shared how they generated income from their waste, reduced water use by 30% and developed an effective approach for engaging with staff, as well as raising their environmental profile.

The visit included a tour of their facilities, presentations from Macsween Haggis, SMAS and Sustainable Food & Drink and an informal question and answer session.

In addition to the video below, James Macsween (Director at Macsween Haggis) describes what makes environmental initiatives a priority for them (here) and their achievements are summarised in this case study.
